New collaboration with the Department of Teacher Education of Gerogia College (USA)

The Foreign Langaugaes and Literature Department of Eurasa International University has started a new collaboration with the Department of Teacher Education of Gerogia College (USA).

The collaboration is quite unique and will support the EIU efforts to internationalise the educational content and, as they say, internationalize at home. Two departments will implement a joint COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) course giving the students the opportunity to interact, study and conduct joint projects. The course is entitled “Exploring Socio-Cultural Perspectives in Educational Context” and will be conducted synchronously online  starting from the Spring semester.

Despite the time zone differences, as well as a number of other challenages, the professors have managed to redesign and adjust the course with the COIL format.

The course will be taught by Dr. Yeprem Mehranian (Ed.D, Proffesor of Georgia University) and Haikuhi Muradian (Head of Foreign Langauges and Literature Department) and will be aimed at identifying elements of culture, developing culturally influenced cognition, interaction styles, languageand communication, understanding the socio-cultural contexts of families and communities etc.

We will update you about the course implementation and share the collaboration outcomes soon.

____________

What is COIL?

As “COIL Consulting” defines, “COIL or Collaborative Online International Learning connects accredited courses, linking the classrooms of two or more higher education institutions, each located in a different country or cultural setting. The COIL model does not merely promote students from different countries sharing an online classroom. Rather, COIL creates equitable team-taught learning environments where faculty from two cultures work together to develop a shared syllabus, emphasizing experiential and collaborative student learning”.

This collaborative efforts emerged during the training workshops implemented by American Councils Armenia.
