Summer Institute “Russia-Ukraine: War, Statecraft, and Shifting Geopolitics in Eurasia”

On 8-9 July 2022, the Jean Monnet Module “EUSecJuris” and the NAASR / Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Lecture Series on Contemporary Armenian Issues co-organized a two-day Summer Institute “Russia-Ukraine: War, Statecraft, and Shifting Geopolitics in Eurasia”.

picture11The first day of the Institute included two plenary roundtables: “Geopolitical Turbulence and the South Caucasus”, and “The War in Ukraine and Its Impact on Eurasian Security”.

Speakers: Dr. Nerses Kopalyan, University of Nevada Las Vegas; Dr. Anna Ohanyan, Stonehill College and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Dr. Alexander Cooley, Columbia University; Dr. Mark Katz, George Mason University; Dr. Brian Taylor, Syracuse University.

The second day of the Institute focused on the role of international law at the times of geopolitical uncertainty.

The plenary roundtable panels were “International Law and Human Rights in an Age of Great Power Rivalry” and “Judicial Transitions and the EU Role in Domestic Reforms in Armenia”. Speakers included Dr. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, Representative of the Republic of Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights, Irina Ghaplanyan, the World Bank; Dr. Anna Khvorostiankina, EIU, academic coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module; Dr. Anna Ohanyan, Stonehill College; Dr. Kirill Bumin, Stonehill College; Tatevik Khachatryan, Open Society Institute; Dr. Nerses Kopalyan, University of Nevada Las Vegas.picture12

Dr. Anna Khvorostiankina, academic coordinator of the JM Module, contributed to the panel International Law and Human Rights in an Age of Great Powers Rivalry.

The event was open to the public.
